Magento templates for e-commerce sitesPosted by: Dave on May 6, 2009 |

Magento is an open source e-commerce platform. It has been gaining more and more popularity over the past few months especially among Irish web developers. Both Realex Payments and Worldnet TPS have added Magento to their list of supported shopping cart e-commerce platforms.
Smashing Magazine published an article on May 5th that lists over 25 Magento e-commerce templates. For each template that they listed they have provided a link to view a live demo of the template as well as a download link.
There are some good quality generic themes included as well as very specific themes such as the pet store theme and the art & photo store theme. If you are building an e-commerce site using Magento then it is worth checking out this list.

To confirm what Dave is saying, over the past 12 months I have been in contact with many web developers in Ireland, and there is a marked movement away from older eCommerce Development environments, and osCommerce in particular, and towards Magento.
This is across the spectrum, from one-man outfits, to the medium sized organisations, and even in some of the Top Tier web developers.
From a WorldNet TPS perspective, we found the process of developing a Payment Plug In module for Magento to be a lot more rigourous than for the likes of osCommerce. The benefit for web developers is that using this Payment Plug In is a very seamless exercise - it's a one-click install.

Magento has become extremely popular e-commerce platform since its release. Online merchants more and more frequently prefer magento to other shopping carts. If you also want to switch to magento you may take a look at cart2cart online service. It automates data migration fm your shopping cart to magento http://www.shopping-cart-migration.com
