A Merchant is the name used to refer to a person, business or company who enters into a contractual agreement with an acquiring bank to accept Visa or MasterCard Payments.

This is a unique number that identifies a merchant in the process of an online transaction. It is also referred to as a Merchant Number. The MID is provided by the Acquirer to the Merchant when they get their Internet Merchant Account.
