How do I get an Internet Merchant Account?

Internet Merchant Account Application ProcessIn order to get an Internet Merchant Account (IMA) you must apply to an acquiring bank. This does not necessarily need to be the bank that you do your business banking with but they will be able to point you to their acquiring partners. Each acquiring bank has a set of strict requirements that they use to determine if they provide will your business with an Internet Merchant Account. The goal of these strict requirements is to determine the risk associated with allowing you to accept payment transactions in a Customer Not Present (CNP) environment.

Typically Internet Merchant Accounts will have a setup fee.  There you will pay the bank a percentage on the value for each credit card transaction and a flat rate fee for each debit card transaction. These fees will be subject to a Montly Minimum Charge (MMC). This MMC is usually in the region of €30.
