Credit Cards such as Visa and Mastercard are the most common methods of online payment. If you are selling online then at a minimum you should be accepting credit card as a form of payment. Debit cards such as Laser and Maestro have become popular in recent times so if you do not accept them you may be ruling out purchases from some customers. Credit card processing will be offered by all payment platforms. Debit card processing may not be offered by everyone and those that do provide it may apply additional fees and charges. Homer has a US issued credit card and is making a purchase on a merchant's website which lists all prices in Euro. When Homer goes to complete his purchase he will be given the option to pay in his own currency, US Dollars, or to pay in Euro. If Homer chooses his own currency he will know exactly how much he is paying in his currency at the time of purchase. If Homer chooses to pay in Euro then he will not know the exact amount to be paid in his currency until he sees his credit card statement.
This service offers advantages to both the customer and the merchant. It providers an extra revenue stream for the Merchant and for the customer they have more control over their finances as they know the exact amount they will be charged before they commit to the purchase.
